How the School Fund was funded $2.16 million BELOW requests:
The School Fund was passed through the Budget Committee with an $0.08
property tax increase that would have generated $1,524,925 new money for the
school system. This left the School Fund $2,096,773 short of the requested
budget. The requested budget included a $0.19 property tax increase. (Note:
Since 1991, the county schools have had $0.18 share of property tax REMOVED
from their budget.)
The full commission took the recommendation of the Budget Committee and
approved a budget of $120,474,312. This amount included no tax increase. The
commission voted on 4 proposals to provide more funding for the schools. All
four proposals failed. (View Proposal 1, 2, 3, 4)
The
$120,474,312 budget that was passed for the school fund included no
additional funding and represented an increase of $6,573,665 over the
1998-1999 budget. This amount represents a 5.21% increase in appropriations
for the 1999-2000 fiscal year.
