Maybe some of my friends are right, one of our local newspapers does have a slant towards local developers?
Compare the same story in the August 22nd, 2006 Daily News Journal and Tennessean:
In the Daily News Journal: Census ranks Rutherford high in nation for housing
In the Tennessean: Rutherford growth ranks 20th in U.S.

I wonder why this paragraph appeared in the Tennessean article but not the DNJ:

Rutherford's advantages include land that is inexpensive to develop, a highly competitive market for new home construction, and local governments that give developers wide discretion to build as they see fit. And Rutherford County has added more than 20,000 new jobs since 2001, in both the blue-collar and white-collar sectors

I wonder?

We're up to 109th in the state in local spending per student

And our county is still covered with portables
